Here are 6 easy steps for making your small laundry room more functional and easy to use.
Step 1 – Put a plastic shoe box or plastic jar/container near to the washer/dryer – This will come in handy for those “found” items that are left at the bottom of your tub when you pull the laundry out. Store change, chapstick, and the occasional button.
Step 2 – Keep a small trash can near the washer/dryer to eliminate lint flying all over as you carry it to the nearest garbage can. This will also work great when you find that a Kleenex has destroyed your load of laundry!
Step 3 – Put detergent in smaller, easy-to-use containers and eliminate the big bottles sitting around. Store stain removers/dryer sheets and other regularly used items close by.
Step 4 – Post all of the stain-fighting tips your mother gave you on a cupboard door or memo board so you don’t have to try to remember or look up these handy tips when a stain pops up on you.
Step 5 – Have separate baskets for darks/lights/others out so family members can sort their own laundry. This is a great way for them to learn how to do the laundry and help save you time and energy on laundry day. Label them with a fabric marker or stick on letters.
Step 6 – These tips should help you save time and energy when facing a mountain of laundry. Remember, small spaces require more organization – but once you get things in order, it’s easy to keep them that way with a little bit of thinking ahead!
